Greater Nebraska 4-H Horse Show Circuit Rules and Regulations
Participation:
All 4-H members, in good standing (i.e. with current 4-H enrollment and current horse 4-H ID sheets), from Greater Nebraska will be invited to join the horse show circuit each spring. Forms can be obtained at local county extension offices or at a participating circuit horse shows. Membership fees are $20 if received by June 1st. This fee will entitle the member to a ticket to the awards banquet at the end of the season. Late entries will be accepted throughout the show season; however, the membership fee after June 1st will increase to $30 per participant. Participant's points will not accrue until membership is paid.
Age Groups:
Age groups for the horse show circuit are as follows: (4-H age as of January 1st of that year):
- Division I - ages 8 through 11
- Division II - ages 12 through 14
- Division III - ages 15 & up
Because of the varying age groups at some of the participating shows, it will be the participant's responsibility to register for the appropriate age group for that show. However, for the purposes of the Greater Nebraska Horse Show Circuit participants will be divided into the above age groups and points will be awarded according to the points amassed at each individual show.
Horse Show Classes:
The following classes will be considered for year-end awards in each age group. Not all participating shows may offer each of these individual classes. It is the participant's responsibility to check the horse show's flyer for details on the classes offered at that show.
- Showmanship
- Western Pleasure
- Western Horsemanship
- Reining
- Trail
- Pole Bending
- Barrels
- English Pleasure
- English Equitation
Contestant Scoring:
Point/placing will be recorded by the show manager on a spreadsheet. The horse show circuit will provide the spreadsheet.
The participating show may give awards according to their individual show's format, but will have the judge place the number of contestants in each class according to a formula based on the number competing in the class. This formula will be provided to the show managers by the horse show circuit. (i.e. formula allows 8 placings, individual show awards given to 6).
Points will be awarded to the individual in each class at all participating horse shows according to their placing in that class. (i.e. 1st place - 8 points, 2nd place - 7 points, 3rd place - 6 points, etc.).
Points will be adjusted for the total number showing in a class. (i.e. 6 in the class, 1st place - 6 points, 2nd place - 5 points, etc.).
B. Contestants total score:
- The total score will be based upon the points accumulated in a predetermined number of participating shows. The number of shows to be counted toward the total points will be decided upon by the steering committee, but will not exceed 75% of the total number of participating shows for that show season. (i.e. 7 participating circuit shows, 5 shows will count toward year-end totals).
- An additional 30 points (one time) will be added to a contestant’s All-Around Score if that contestant participates in a 4-H educational event as a 4-H member/participant. The approved list of educational events are:
- March 8th: 4-H Horse Stampede
- April 7th: Buffalo County 4-H Hippology Contest
- April 20th: Lincoln County 4-H Horse Bowl
- May 28th: Pitzers 4-H Horse Judging Contest
- June 25th: Dawson County Hippology & Judging Contest
- July 7th: Pine Ridge Stables 4-H Horse Judging Contest
- July 13-14: State 4-H Horse Expo Hippology Contest
- July 14th: State 4-H Horse Expo Judging Contest
- The total score for the contestant in each event will be calculated by using the highest placing scores for that individual in the predetermined number of shows for that season. (i.e. contestant attends 6 participating shows; 5 shows is the predetermined total number of shows - that contestant's top 5 placing scores would be their year-end total).
- In case of a tie the following procedure will be followed:
- 1. The next highest show score will be added to the contestants total score for that event to break the tie.
- 2. The individual with the highest number of first place finishes is the winner.
- 3. The individual winner of head to head competitions is the winner.
- 4. The individual with the highest number of educational participations throughout the current 4-H season (i.e. horse bowl, hippology, horse judging).
Awards:
Awards will be presented at the end of each show circuit season as follows:
- Grand Champion & Reserve Champion in each event and age group.
- Overall Grand Champion and Reserve Champion in each age group.
